Smoking tobacco increases the risk for chronic illnesses like cancer, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and stroke. It is the leading cause of preventable death. Not smoking, or quitting smoking can greatly reduce the risk for developing chronic illnesses.
PHDM partners with local coalitions that focus on substance misuse and harm reduction, including tobacco and nicotine products. These partnerships help to raise awareness of tobacco products in the community and enables community members to educate themselves so they can take action for reducing tobacco use and creating healthier communities.
